- INTRODUCTION
- ============
-
- AC is an up-to-date area-code finder. Using its simple interface, you
- can search for area codes and country codes just by typing in the
- information you know. The program accepts area codes, country codes,
- two-letter state codes, city and town names, and state and province
- names.
-
- Using AC, you can instantly be sure of the location of an area code,
- eliminating calls that are too early or late for the area you're
- calling. Even better, if you know the city, state, or country you want
- to call, but don't know the correct area code, you'll find it in AC.
-
- TIP: To get a phone number in another city, just get the area code
- with AC, then dial 1-(area code)-555-1212 to get the information
- operator.
-
-
- REQUIREMENTS
- ============
-
- AC Hunter will run on any IBM-compatible PC. You'll need DOS 2.1 or a
- later version, 256K of memory, and one disk drive. AC Hunter will run
- on any monitor.
-
-
- INSTALLATION
- ============
-
- To use AC Hunter, copy AC.EXE and AC.DAT to a floppy disk or to a
- directory on your hard disk. It's best to copy the files to a
- directory on your hard disk named in your PATH statement. This allows
- you to run AC Hunter from any prompt.
-
- The first time you run AC Hunter, the program will ask you for the
- directory containing the AC.DAT file. Once you type this in, the
- program will always be able to find its data. If you move the file
- later, you can update this path information.
-
- USING AC
- ========
-
- AC Hunter is very easy to use. Just enter the command, AC <Enter> at
- the DOS prompt. Once the program starts you'll see a menu of function
- keys. Press the key corresponding to the operation you want to
- perform. You can also use the cursor keys to highlight a command, then
- press <Enter>. Here's a list of AC Hunter functions:
-
- F1 HUNT * Look for area codes and other information
- F2 QUIT * Leave Area Code Hunter and return to DOS
- F3 PATH * Specify location of AC Hunter Data file
- F4 INFO * General information about AC Hunter
- F5 FORM * Print form to order the latest AC Hunter
-
- Most often, you'll want to go directly to looking up information.
- Since the HUNT command is already highlighted when you start AC
- Hunter, just press <Enter> to start your search.
-
- Just type in an area code, state name, state code, city name, country
- name or country code, then press <Enter>. AC Hunter will search its
- data and display all matching information.
-
- HINT: If you're searching for a city, and AC Hunter can't find the
- city, try entering the name of a larger, nearby city.
-
- Once you've finished your search, press any key to return to the menu.
-
- SHORTCUT: You can bypass the AC Hunter menu by typing the search
- information when you give the AC command. For example to search for
- information about the 213 area code, give the command this way at the
- DOS prompt:
-
- AC 213 <Enter>
